Amit Seal Ami

Amit Seal Ami, a Computer Science Ph.D. candidate, has been honored with the International Student Achievement Award for his significant contribution to security and software engineering (SE) research and service. Amit’s research investigates the effectiveness of security tools and has led to the discovery of several critical flaws in tools used for improving the security and privacy of services used by billions of users worldwide. His research has been published at highly selective venues in security and SE, such as IEEE S&P, USENIX Security, ICSE, and FSE.

Aside from his high quality research, the award also recognizes Amit’s contribution toward broadening participation in computing and his significant contribution to CS graduate outreach. Particularly, in the last 5 years at W&M, Amit mentored several undergraduate and graduate students. He also developed an outreach program that enabled undergraduate students at his alma mater, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, to work on research with W&M computer science faculty. Finally, Amit has made exemplary contributions to open source software, and has a strong track record of serving his research community as a sub-reviewer for top-tier security and software engineering conferences, such as IEEE S&P, USENIX, NDSS, ESEC/FSE, ASE, and ICSME. His dedication to the community, both within W&M and beyond, exemplifies the spirit of the award, and highlights the positive impact of international students.
